Creative Portal PDF Guidelines

In addition to the packaged InDesign and IDML file, two separate PDFs need to be created for uploading to the Quest Creative Portal:

  1. High-resolution CYMK PDF with crop marks (this will be the same as the Press-ready PDF exported to the final packaged folder)
  2. CMYK PDF without crop marks

These PDFs will be saved in "Job Number > Production > Final > XXXXXX-PDFs for Creative Portal" separate from the final packaged folder. The applicable job number should be substituted for "XXXXXX".

High-resolution CMYK PDF with crop marks

  • Export with Press-Quality presets: File-Adobe PDF Presets-Press Quality.
    • If you need to find these presets and apply them to InDesign, go here:/Volumes/data/CREATIVE/MEG/PDF PRESETS
  • File Size: n/a
  • Color: CMYK, Spot Colors (if applicable)
  • Printer's marks: Crop Marks, Registration Marks, Page Information
  • Bleed and Slug: Check box next to "Use Document Bleed Settings"
    • Adjust "Offset" to match Document Bleed Settings
  • Append filename with "-HI-RES-CROPS" i.e. "34242-FIN-TS-MYD88 Mutation Analysis-TS3652-HIRES-CROPS.pdf"

CMYK PDF without crop marks

  • File Size: <1MB
    • There is no preset PDF export that will guarantee you a PDF less than 1MB. Ideally, you will preserve the fidelity of the linked images as much as possible and keep the file size just under the maximum requirement. Try using the "High-Quality Print" preset and adjust your Compression settings until you have created a suitable PDF.
  • Color: CMYK (no spot colors)
  • Printer's marks: None
  • Bleed: None
  • Append filename with "-CMYK" i.e. "34242-FIN-TS-MYD88 Mutation Analysis-TS3652-CMYK.pdf"
Fill out final QA PDF
  • Exists in production folder
  • Name PDF with current job name "QA-Job#XXXXX"
  • Fill out all fields
  • Ask other designer to proof final production files and finish filling out the QA form.
