Starting a Map Pad

• To begin, determine which type of map pad is being created.
• Map pads have two basic steps: flowing in PSC information and drawing maps
• The most important step on LMP is to confirm and reorder maps before flowing the PSC information or drawing the large area map. All maps should be arranged in order based on their city name. If a "nickname" was given, the name should be changed to City Name (space n-dash space) Nickname or Street Name. This helps keep order to multiple PSCs in the same city while still being able to differentiating them from one another.

Maps

The goal of the front map (LMP/XLMP only) is an overview – it will give someone an idea of which one they want to go to. The small maps need to get them there. If you are showing a road that is random off the side, that doesn’t at least connect to a road that connects – it's not helping.

Drawing PSC Maps

1. When drawing PSC maps for a LMP only: If you still have the multi location live screen available, zoom into each location to the appropriate size and take a screen grab, going from A, B, C, etc.
   OR Plot each one and take the screen grab.
2. Zoom in or out according to what will look comfortable in the space while giving the reader enough info to actually get there. Not too much detail – it’s a balance.
3. Save each screen shot into the art folder for the job (New maps only)
4. Once maps are drawn, they should follow this naming convention: City/NicknameStateAbbrev_StreetName2.0.eps (e.g.:DentonTX_SMayhill2.0.eps)

Things to Remember

• Be mindful to check all pickup maps for accuracy of symbols, road name abbreviations (N., N.W., Rd. Ave. Blvd. etc)
• If a street is showing on a map it has to be labeled.
• Interstate highways only receive the highway line point treatment. State and US roads remain a single 1pt black line
• Also check that the Quest Diagnostics words are always left aligned. If you open a map and notice they are right aligned, please open the map and revise
• All road names should be using the 7.5 pt size unless the space is extremely tight, then the smaller size can be used
• Make sure to delete the old green PMS from the map layout to ensure job stays 2C

Drawing Large Area Maps

1. Copy and paste each address in the order that the PSCs are going to appear in layout (ie, alphabetical, not necessarily the order they supply them)
2. Zoom in or out as you think will look correct in the space. Take a screen shot.
3. Drop the map portion of this into the inD doc. Show it to the AE and let them know this is where the layout is going. Save this screen shot as pdf on seeker, and as jpg in your folder. ‘’This is a way to confirm placement before customizing the map. If they want you to zoom in or out from what you were thinking, you haven’t started the actual artwork yet.’’
4. Pickup template for state maps here: /Volumes/data/CREATIVE/QUEST DIAGNOSTICS/PSC LOCATION MAPS/50 STATE MAPS ‘’Delete all except the following layers from illustrator doc: 1-9, 13, 16-18, 41’’
5. Now, drop the approved screenshot in the same zoom percentage as the approved InDesign crop.
6. In order to keep each styled element intact and on separate layers, I like to grab the layers from the LMP template (data/CREATIVE/QUEST DIAGNOSTICS/PSC LOCATION MAPS/2.0 PSC LOCATION MAPS/2.0 MAP TEMPLATES/PSC LMP AREA Template2.0.eps) on a new layer and lock it. Now we have all elements on separate layers.
7. Begin customizing the roads, road symbols and counties easily by locking all layers except the one you need to change. Do a select all and customize that layer. Repeat until all layers are in the approved QD styles.
8. Once the map is done, save the map into the respective job’s Art folder. They should follow this naming convention: job#_area name.eps (e.g.:35555_Austin.eps)

   Things to Remember

   • Typically we only show Interstate and US roads. If the map is very bare, we can sometimes show State roads too
   • Remember to turn on the cap and rounded corners on all roads to ensure that the roads do not show any gaps
   • If you need to double check by zooming in or out on a location you can go back to google to make sure things are close to where they should be.
   • List the city name next to the marker in proper font style. If there are more than 1 in the city, place the name once between/around the location numbers.
   • Pickup styles only as shown on the Details of the LMP Area template. Do not make up styles. If you come across something you are unsure of, ask
   • Make sure to delete the old green PMS from the map layout to ensure job stays 2C

   Flowing PSC Information Into Templates

   • Pay special attention to what the "All Insurance Accepted" vs "Most Insurance Accepted" line should say.
   • All maps should be arranged in order based on their city name. If a "nickname" was given, the name should be changed to City Name (space n-dash space) Nickname or Street Name. This helps keep order to multiple PSCs in the same city while still being able to differentiating them from one another.
   • If a location is located in a specific building (i.e. Kent Atkins Building, 1101 Old Short Hills Road, West Orange NJ), the name of the Building appears on line 1 of the address followed by the Building number, street names, Suite number (when applicable), City State and Zip

   Small Map Pad

   1. Pickup SMP template here: /data/CREATIVE/QUEST DIAGNOSTICS/TEMPLATES/PRINT/2.0 Templates/2.0 Map Pads (make sure you grab the one without the QR code unless asked for by client)
   2. Enter information highlighted by the "Do Not Print" layer of the InDesign Document (in pink).
   3. Create map from Google Maps search. Refer to section Drawing PSC Maps
   4. Place maps @ 90% into layout
   5. Update PSC lit code and date on back

   Medium Map Pad

   1. Pickup MMP template here: /data/CREATIVE/QUEST DIAGNOSTICS/TEMPLATES/PRINT/2.0 Templates/2.0 Map Pads (make sure you grab the one without the QR code unless asked for by client)
   2. Enter information highlighted by the "Do Not Print" layer of the InDesign Document (in pink).
   3. Create map from Google Maps search, plot out multiple locations on the same map. Refer to section Drawing PSC Maps
   4. Place maps @ 90% into layout
   5. Update PSC lit code and date on back

   Large Map Pad & Extra Large Map Pad

   1. Pickup LMP template here: data/CREATIVE/QUEST DIAGNOSTICS/TEMPLATES/PRINT/2.0 Templates/2.0 Map Pads/PSC_LMP_2.0Template_FIN.indd
   2. Make sure locations are listed alphabetically by City Name. Make sure to check all locations and if there is one named with a nickname/street name, change the name to City (space n-dash space) Nickname or Street Name. This ensures that the patient will be able to quickly and effectively scan the map pad for the location closest to them by easily recognizing the cities.
   3. Enter information highlighted by the "Do Not Print" layer of the InDesign Document (in pink).
   4. Place maps @ 83% into layout
   5. Update PSC lit code and date on back

   Extra Large Map Pad

   1. Pickup XLMP template here: data/CREATIVE/QUEST DIAGNOSTICS/TEMPLATES/PRINT/2.0 Templates/2.0 Map Pads/PSC_XLMP_2.0Template_FIN.ind (Please be mindful to check the side of the templates to make sure you are using the correct template for the amount of PSCs that are being listed in the XLMP.)
   2. Make sure locations are listed alphabetically by City Name. Make sure to check all locations and if there is one named with a nickname/street name, change the name to City (space n-dash space) Nickname or Street Name. This ensures that the patient will be able to quickly and effectively scan the map pad for the location closest to them by easily recognizing the cities.
